The New Adventures of Maxx The Dog

This Old Woof
Whew, it's been a busy couple of weeks at the new place. My humans have been mighty grumpy lately, all because the family car stopped running. (I still don't understand why they call it "running." Cars don't have legs, so how can they possibly run? They should call it "rolling.") They said this afternoon that it's running again, and that's just ridiculous. Of course it isn't running. It isn't even rolling. It's parked outside where it's supposed to be.
Aaaaanyway...
I have become a dedicated observer of my new humans. My male human is pretty good about taking me out, no matter how many times I ask him to go. He complains that I can't really need to go that often, but he takes me anyway.
SCORE!
My female human is mostly all right, though she gets irked with me when I claim my space on the sofa.
Well what does she expect? It is MY sofa, after all! She's gone most of the day, while I am there claiming my space and stretching out to make the most of it. A few nights ago both my male AND my female human were sitting there on my sofa. I told them in a very authoritative bark that they'd better move. Where did they expect ME to stretch out??? It took them forever to understand. In fact, I'm not sure they ever understood until finally the female moved and I reclaimed my spot.
Humph! Humans! You'd think even if they don't get the details, they'd understand my tone of bark.
The training is coming along more slowly with the female, but she is learning. I bring her my rope every night when she gets home, to teach her the finer points of playing fetch. She did bring home some nice tennis balls for me a few nights ago. She is also learning the value of throwing in a straight line, preferably a line that doesn't cross paths with a lamp.
Hey, at least the lamp is still in one piece, even though it tipped over a couple of times.
I suppose I sound grumpy here. It's not really so bad. My humans are really all right people. They give me belly rubs without too much prompting. They keep my food dish filled and make sure I have fresh water. I get to go on walks several times a day, and I've got them well trained to give me treats every time I take care of necessary business outdoors.
I guess I'm just bored. I never thought I'd see the day, but I'd almost welcome the sight of a cat. Naturally I bark to warn off anyone who comes too close to the place, but it's not the same as a good chase. There's just something about a cat up a tree, the hideous beast hissing in abject terror, that does a dog good. I get a warm fuzzy feeling just thinking about it.
Well now, it's dark outside. I'd better go stand guard next to my humans' bed, to be sure no sneaky cats (or anyone else) gets in tonight.
Have a woofy night!
